MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICE
There are many forms of Psychological Therapy and finding the right one for you can feel like a daunting task. Although most therapies have a common history, the range of different therapies is considerable and new types are emerging all the time.
In fact there is evidence for most of the main forms of psychotherapy, such as Psychoanalytic or Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT) Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Family Therapy, Couple’s Therapy etc. This range of choice can make finding the right type of therapeutic approach for you, quite a complex process.
It is important then to know that overall, research into the effectiveness of therapies shows that one of the key factors to improved psychological well being is the relationship someone develops with their therapist. However, it is extremely important to make sure that your therapist has had a suitable training and is currently registered with one of the main regulatory bodies. Please see our useful links page for the main registering bodies for UK psychologists and psychotherapists.
With this in mind, at 13 Royal Square we like to offer initial consultations, which vary from one to four sessions. This allows you, as a potential client, to meet with one of us and find out more about the therapies we offer.
As British Psychological Society Chartered Psychologists, we are both clinically trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches, which means we can offer you a space to make an informed decision about the most suitable form of therapy for you. At 13 Royal Square we primarily practice in a psychoanalytically informed way, but we are happy to think with you about other forms of therapy that might be more suited to your needs. We are also able to direct you to an alternative appropriately qualified therapist, if together we decide this would be in your best interests.
We are both registered providers of psychological therapy with the major insurers, including AXA PPP, Bupa and AVIVA. It is important to discuss your individual cover with your insurer prior to attending for assessment. Please be aware that some insurers require your GP to make a formal referral prior to assessment.
